It may be the holiday season right now, but in CANCOM it’s lively anyway, as we play sport together on a regular basis and we are even engaged with educating the next generation of CANCOMers.
At CANCOM we know that in a healthy body there is a healthy spirit.
There are endless articles, videos, and podcasts about how movement is good for your health, makes you feel good, and even gives you a more fit body. Further, regular movement eliminates stress and helps us relax, which is why at CANCOM we enjoy a combination of strength training, cardio, and ball games together during the summer. That’s why we chose this combination because every CANCOMer is different, so we wanted there to be something for everyone. Oh, and we’re even involved in educating the next generation of CANCOMers.
The Monday cycling tours with Peter Živčák.
In CANCOM we have a large cycling group, which is managed by our colleague Peter Živčák and it’s not just a recreational group, as Peťo is more than just a regular cyclist and he has been doing performance cycling for more than 5 years and currently wears the jersey of the Pro-body team, so our CANCOMers are well taken care of. Peťo is basically an internal mentor who takes care of our fitness but also our bikes, because his tips are in huge demand.
We ride regularly every Monday around Košice, so if you see a group of cyclists in our company colors, so encourage them a little, as Peťo does not spare them and proposes a variety of routes. Sometimes they take easier routes, but occasionally they go for something more adventurous, and so there are whispers in our corridors about various stories from these cycling trips.
Tuesdays belong to volleyball.
Volleyball is a regular part of the summer months at CANCOM, only this year we are playing at a different location as our popular Beach Club was not available. Probably everyone in Košice knows what is currently going on at the city swimming pool, so this is the reason for the change. This year we are playing at the Anička on the premises of Klídek every Tuesday and our volleyball group is regularly growing with new members and currently has almost 30 volleyball enthusiasts.
Regular circle workouts in Family Gym Oáza.
Surely, you’ve heard about circuit training, as it is a very widespread form of exercise, but if you haven’t, then just briefly. It is a training method of exercising the whole body, which is based on repetitive performance of selected exercises in sequence in a precise order, and it is not fun at all and it gives you quite a nice workout. We work out regularly 3 times a week at Family Gym Oáza under the guidance of their trainers, who supervise the correctness of the exercises and at the same time each exercise is set up to be fun.
During all this, we also manage to spend time with the next generation of CANCOMers.
This year, we launched a summer school with micro: bits, where CANCOMers aged 8 to 13 learn about the tangible side of programming. Have you ever heard of micro: bit? No? Micro: bits are nothing new and were developed in 2016 by the BBC to support the teaching of programming in computer science classes in the UK. The micro: bit is essentially a programmable microcomputer that contains a display, 2 buttons, motion, tilt, temperature and antenna sensors. We can even connect other components to it such as LED strips, speakers, motors and more. So, the micro: bit is the perfect tool for teaching programming, physics, biology and chemistry.
We teach the next generation of CANCOMers every Wednesday under the guidance of our colleague Alžbeta Kopková, who has enriched her maternity leave in this way. Of course, Betka is not alone in this, as our colleagues (Martin Džodla, Jozef Capík, Michal Ferko, Marcel Jankura and Marián Mižák) also help her in lecturing. To make the summer school really worth it, our whole team has been trained by the organization Učíme s Hardvérom so that CANCOMers will have a summer they will want to repeat.
