CANCOMers can recognize themselves also in the airplane
The times must have really changed because some of our colleagues have only met on a plane or in Germany on a business trip, but they have never bumped into each other in our office. This is also what it is like to work at CANCOM.
Business trips are part of our working lives. Some people like them and others pretend they don’t. Still, a good business trip can make our working life more enjoyable. After all, every one of us wanted to experience the world and foreign cultures at some point in our lives. Simply being on business assignment takes you to places you wouldn’t normally go. For example, would you ever go to Jettingen Scheppach? Probably not.
Such a business trip was recently completed by Noemi and Žaneta, who work for us as Active Sourcing Specialist. Since the title is rather cryptic, we’ll keep it simple. These two ladies are looking for their new colleagues in Germany as they are part of German HR. The purpose of their business trip was to participate in Global Onboarding Day, which takes place every quarter, and their main goal was simply to experience Global Onboarding Day, but also to soak up the culture and get to know their colleagues.
How is the Global Onboarding day?
Well, it’s different because it’s bigger, with almost 100 people attending, but we include presenters and HR colleagues in that number. There were almost 70 purely new CANCOMers there and they were our colleagues from all over Germany, Belgium and also one from Slovakia. We won’t reveal his or her identity just yet and will reveal it at the end of the article.
The ladies started their journey at the airport in Košice and had a change of plane in Vienna for their flight to Munich and then a direct train to the venue. They stayed at a place called Burgau, which is located near Jettingen Scheppach.
Global Onboarding day lasts 2 days and the first day started at 10:30 with registration and then it officially started. Right at the beginning our CEO Rüdiger Rath was given the floor and told us a bit more about CANCOM, our philosophy and the future. After that, the other presenters came, but there was a break in between each part to give room for networking. The official program of the first day ended at 17:00 and then there was the so-called get together, i.e. talks, introductions and discussions on a variety of topics.
The whole evening was in a very friendly atmosphere, and I didn’t feel like I was interacting with our top management at all. Everyone was very nice and often mentioned Košice. The thing that surprised me most about the whole thing was the friendly atmosphere and the way everyone looked after us. Do you have everything? Come and sit down, as we are about to start. I knew Germans as cold people, but what I experienced there was the opposite.
Žaneta,
Our ladies even got to know our CEO personally. He simply walked up to them and said : Hallo, ich bin Rüdiger Rath.
The second day was a bit different, because there were lectures, but it was enriching with a tour of the CANCOM logistics hall. Here both ladies agreed that the tour was probably the best bit of the programme. Well, right after the tour there was a transfer to the airport, but at the airport they were told that their flight was cancelled, but don’t worry, they were taken care of.
What has it given them?
Well Noemi summed it up perfectly, so we’ll use her quote to help us.
So the big added value is a tour of the logistics center because you can get a better idea of how CANCOM works. Furthermore, the warmth and friendship of my German colleagues resonated so much in me and gave me such pride in CANCOM. I’m just glad to be here.
Noemi,
Conclusion
A funny story to conclude.
Every business trip has its hilarious part, which Noemi experienced on the plane. Today, however, colleagues no longer meet in the office, but on the plane. Two unfamiliar ladies met on the plane and discovered that they were both travelling to Jettingen Scheppach, so one asked the other a very interesting question. Do you work for CANCOM? That’s how Noemi met Renata, who works for us as Integration Manager.
