The Last Weeks of This Calendar Year Were Marked by Interesting Discussions and Conversations
Even though the year is coming to an end, we at CANCOM definitely haven’t slowed down. We’ve managed to organize a high school visit, hold our regular company-wide meeting, organize an internal hackathon together with our German colleagues, and still find time for a discussion about our work.
We want the best students to stay in our region, and throughout this year we’ve teamed up with the Innovation Center of the Košice Region. We’ve already managed to get involved in several projects organized by the Innovation Center. A few weeks ago, we had the pleasure of welcoming students from the Sečovce High School, who came to see firsthand how things work in an international IT company. Through two 45-minute lectures, we aimed to introduce them to our IT world.
The first lecture was given by Denisa Sakala Gregová (Senior Manager – SK Central Services), who presented our company and the Košice branch. Then Martin Petrík (Service Manager) spoke, explaining career opportunities with us. After the lectures, we showed the students our new office spaces, and they really liked it here. However, they were most impressed by the virtual reality in our Game Zone. After the visit, they continued their day at the Faculty of Science at Pavol Jozef Šafárik University. We hope that their morning spent in Košice showed them that this is a place worth staying in, as we have top-notch companies and universities here.
The Last Touch Base of This Year
Discussion is part of our company culture, so once a month we gather together to talk about our culture and business. As the end of the year approaches, we focused on topics related to the year’s close, such as closing attendance, vacation time, year-end hardware audit, and more. The most important part of the meeting is the final discussion, where we openly talk about everything related to our company. For example, at this Touch Base meeting, we discussed our employee benefits.
We Organized an Internal Hackathon with Our German Colleagues
In addition, two weeks ago we organized the second CANCOM hackathon, with the help of our German colleagues. The hackathon was mainly attended by colleagues from the Microsoft-Citrix teams, but the main theme also attracted participants from other CANCOM teams. Let’s face it, continuous learning is the foundation of success in our profession.
During two intense days, all participants thoroughly familiarized themselves with technologies like Git, Terraform, and APIs in our CANCOM Cloud. The event was a success, and we’re already looking forward to the next hackathon because IT is relentlessly moving forward, and we want to stay one step ahead.
What Exactly Do My Colleagues Do?
It’s not always clear what exactly our colleagues do, especially in a large company. Let’s be honest: when you work at a company with 350 employees, it’s nearly impossible to know every team and their specific tasks.
By the way, our Košice branch has exactly this number of employees, and that’s why we strive to talk as much as possible about our work so we can collaborate more effectively. It may sound like a cliché, but it’s truly the case. It’s simply good to know what your colleagues are doing. That’s why, a few days ago, we had a discussion about one of CANCOM’s key branches – our office in Jettingen-Scheppach, which is essentially the beating heart of our company. Fourteen colleagues from our Košice team gave us a 90-minute presentation about their collaboration with teams from this branch.
What did we learn? A lot of useful information, because everything is handled there – from procurement to IT equipment rollout. Thanks to scalable and standardized processes, as many as 1,500 devices can be processed in a single shift. Pretty impressive, right?
As the ancient philosopher Plato said, the foundation of knowledge is dialogue, and that’s exactly what we follow. We try to talk as much as possible so that everyone knows what’s happening in our company.
