At the beginning of this year, we teamed up with AMELIA Slovakia and Syntax Systems Slovakia for a good cause and together we embarked on organizing a year-long blood donation series. The latest round took place at our premises and can boast with a record participation.

AMELIA Slovakia came up with the idea of joint blood donation and the whole series started in February in their premises. It was then continued in the summer in the premises of Syntax Systems Slovakia. The last round of blood donation took place on 17 October at our place and the blood donation was again provided by the medical staff of AGEL Košice – Šaca Hospital.
We agreed on these dates mainly as these are the critical months of the year when health professionals need blood the most.
Blood is simply irreplaceable and there is never enough of it because it is needed by people after injuries, accidents, cancer patients, blood diseases, bleeding disorders or autoimmune diseases. Blood donation even has a positive impact on the donor themselves, as it can reveal hidden diseases, boost immunity and regeneration, and help prevent haemochromatosis. You are simply helping others, but also yourself.
Everyone could get involved in the blood donation and not just the employees of the IT companies behind it, as we communicated the date and conditions of the blood donation externally and you may have also noticed the posters in the lifts in the AuparkTower.
The last blood donation was a pleasure for everyone, as it had a record turnout and even other IT companies joined, namely Vissim Slovakia, Accenture and IBM Slovakia. If you translate this into numbers, 31 people signed up for the first blood donation and 52 people signed up for the last one, which clearly shows that it makes sense to join together for a good cause. In total, we donated 20 L of blood.
The blood donation started at 7:30 am and the first moments already indicated that the turnout was quite high. We had healthy refreshments ready for all donors, so the donors could also talk to each other, after all they are all in the same industry, so there was certainly no shortage of common topics.
I had made the commitment to donate blood many times, but I still had a lot of respect and fear of the big needle beforehand. I am more grateful for the IT Blood Drop project thanks to which, I finally took the plunge, overcame my fear and took part in a blood donation. Even as a first-time donor, I have to say that it was really painless and after a few minutes I was over it. A big plus was also the very nice medical staff from AGEL Košice-Šaca Hospital, who took care of all of us with a smile on their face.

The event ended a little before 12:30 and all donors and medical staff took home a good feeling and nice memories of another successful event.
What I enjoyed most about the whole event was the friendly atmosphere. On other days we are basically all competition for each other, but today we were able to come together for a good cause. I also had the opportunity to meet many friends and acquaintances, so I rate the event as such very positively

The whole idea of joint blood donation turned out to be a great success and if anyone doesn’t believe us, we can confirm this bold claim with numbers. The first Valentine’s Day blood drive provided 12.6L of blood and during the second summer round we donated 14L of blood. Oh, and the Halloween Blood Drop brought in 20L of blood. These numbers are clear proof that it makes sense to join for a good cause.
