A well-crafted CV is the alpha and omega of the interview, so be sure to read yours thoroughly before the interview and try to remember as much relevant information as possible to help you present yourself appropriately. It is said that a paper can take a lot, so prepare real examples of what you’ve already done in advance so that it’s not just about theory.
Don’t forget to find out information about the position and the company you’re applying to as well. Nowadays, every company has a social media presence in addition to its website, where you can find out all about the company’s events and culture. Finally, before the interview, make sure you check what language the interview will be in so that you are not surprised if the interview starts in English.
Nowadays, you can already come across different types of interviews, face-to-face or online. However, in both cases, punctuality is most essential and will help you make a better first impression.
For a personal interview, arrive 10-15 minutes early. As this is a digital age and many interviews are done online from home, so before the interview clean your room, test your camera and test your microphone. You can join the meeting earlier and avoid any technical problems that might occur. If you’ve arranged for the interview to last an hour, book an extra 15 minutes in your diary so you don’t have to rush in case the interview is extended.
There’s nothing worse than having your phone ring loudly in your pocket during an interview, because it’s probably not going to make you feel any better. So, make sure you check that your phone is on silent mode before the interview.
For an online interview, try to find a quiet place where you won’t be disturbed. Imagine a situation where you are asked a question and your neighbour has just started drilling into the wall next door. You probably won’t be able to concentrate properly. Right?
An interview should not be a monologue or a kind of one-sided questioning. Let us leave this to other institutions and discussion forums. Answer interview questions thoughtfully and tactfully in order to make the strongest possible impression. Don’t be shy about thinking your answer through carefully before answering the question.
